Gates
These windows, filled with a woollen weave to form a lattice, are interior spaces that create passages over closed walls. They serve to rebuild lost connections. To repair and reopen paths, passages between an inner and an outer space. By creating passages, they heal bonds.
A border, once drawn, can be crossed and a fence is not always a prison. In the cell of St Catherine of Siena one returns to oneself. “Make yourself a chamber in your mind where you can go by yourself”, a protected place from which to observe, and not just to be seen. An “inner castle” as Teresa of Avila calls it, within which it is possible to wander.
